Future Events (2008)
Salute to the 40s - Rawcliffe Hall
It's back, but later in the year. The new date is 29th to 31st August 2008. Contact RawcliffeATsouthcumbrianorthlancemvt.org.uk, or Paul Higgins on 07790 335252 for further information. Entertainment is confirmed as the North West Military Collectors Association who will be putting on a battle for us. Jill Daniels a well known singer within the 40s re-enactment scene, and Andy Eastwood (ukulele and singer) have been confirmed for the Saturday night as have The Crown Top Kings (part of The Swing Commanders after the split). We have booked Phil Connolly's Huey to call in for a visit on the Sunday. This year the sponsored charity is Combat Stress, a charity that helps soldiers suffering from stress following combat trauma. As in previous years there will be a fashion contest held in the marquee on the Sunday. Entry forms for The Salute are available here.
West Lancs Festival of Transport
The North West Area of the MVT have been associated with this event over the past couple of years. This year the event is on Sunday 7th September. This will be held at the Leisure Lakes site between Southport and Tarleton off the A562. Entry is free to display vehicles but there is a £10 fee to take part in the road run. Go to http://wlancsmg.homestead.com/show2008.html to get an entry form.
Embsay Railway
The Embsay 1940s weekend is to be held on the weekend of 13th -14th September. Based at Embsay railway station this event seems to be growing in popularity. See here for details.
Arnhem 2008
The West Lancs Area are making arrangements to visit Arnhem from 17th to 23rd September 2008. This coincides with the Airborne Battle Wheels Oosterbeek foundation event that occurs here every year. Full details of who to contact and the itinerary are contained in the attached document here. In the past this has been a very enjoyable weekend hosted by the very friendly Dutch locals. Dave Salisbury requires a deposit of £25 per person before the 1st May 2008 as the organisers need to send the 50 Euro deposit for the campsite and some food.
Silverdale
Booked for the 26th to 28th September 2008, that is 2 nights stop over, Bob has secured the Leeds Children's Home for a weekend camp, or use of dormitories. Further details will be posted when they are known.
Carnforth Railway 40s event
On 4th and 5th October Carnforth Railway have offered to put on a 40s weekend. This is a new event and will be put together fairly quickly over the next few months. Camping will be arranged, but depending on the size of the field, it means we may be able to open this up to more than our area to attend. The camping will probably be on a farmer's field close by to the station so I have asked that toilets be provided and I was assured they would be. Provisional details are that a dance/entertainment and corned beef hash type supper will be put on in the Close Encounter cafe on the Saturday night. Parking will be provided around the station on both days for display of the vehicles to the public. I'm not sure yet whether a road run will be planned, but watch this site for further details. John Ward is co-ordinating this event with the Carnforth Railway owners. If it is agreeable to our members, this could be our crank-down event (to be discussed at the next meeting).
Pickering North Yorks Railway 40s event
This event will be held on the 10th to 12th October 2008. A late event but one that is always well attended. I don't have any contact details but I'm sure if you contact the North Yorks Railway they will tell you all you need to know. Ring 01751 472508.
